GEDCOM is a data format that is designed to provide a flexible, uniform format for exchanging computerized genealogical data. The current standardized version is GEDCOM 5.5

GEDCOM was developed by the Family and Church History Department of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
